Department of Social Work
The social work department was re-established in the Faculty of Health, University of Debrecen in 2013. The mission of the department is teaching both theoretical and practical social work, development of training, implementation of applied research and publishing.

Additional lecturers and external staff
The application of professional practice is lead by field practice trainers in external practice institutions. There are 70 external practice institutions and 110 field practice trainers that are part of the programs of the Faculty.
Education
The department staffs teach social work, social policy studies and lead practical seminars in all social programs of the Faculty. Lecturers of the department participate in preparing and examining students for the social professional examation. Having many international partners make it possible to participate in the educational and research work in their institutions. Lecturers of the department work as tutors and lecturers in the Frigyes Verzár and the Evangelic Roma Colleges for Advanced Studies.
Research
The department’s research is related to underdeveloped social layers and areas of social work. The research includes, for example, unemployment, prostitution, drug addiction, homelessness, problems of children and young people, disability, and social training. Members of the department are the founders of the Social Work Research Unit of the Faculty and the head of the department is the deputy head of the Research Unit.
The lecturers regularly participate in the "Quality of life in Nyíregyháza" household panel research and in the process and publication of its results.
Publications
The staffs of the department are the members of editorial board of two publications founded by the Faculty: Acta Medicinae et Sociological, and the social work journal Dialog (in Hungarian: Párbeszéd). The head of the department is the chief editor of the social work journal Dialog.

Relationships
The Department has two major relationships the Hungarian Social Association for Training Professionals (School Association), and the Union of the Social Professional Organisations. In addition some of our lecturers are the members of the Public Body of the Hungarian Scientific Academy as well as several other professional organizations and scientific associations.
